New branding I’m just not loving

My mother-in-law is a major Sci Fi fan, probably so much that if she could only have one channel, it would be Sci Fi. She’s also an incredibly smart women, knows how to handle just about any situation (she has a default laugh like me when nothing else will do) and is a teacher. She uses proper grammar and English and I’ve never seen her misspell a word. My case is that she is who I think of when I personally fit a Sci Fi fan to their audience (I’m a fan but my tolerance ends right after an X-Files show does; that is my kind of Sci Fi) so the new branding just seems like a big miss.

They selected this word for what appears to be two reasons: 1) it was now one word and would help with spelling issues (huh?) and 2) it was available for trademark. To think that Syfy is now easier to spell is horribly wrong. We continue to propell the improper use of our language. When I think of the image that comes to mind for Sci Fi, they know how to spell Sci Fi and that it means science fiction.
I agree the branding could use a facelift and the Saturn-ish globe could be tossed, but I’m not a fan of their direction. It will be interesting to see if there is any public noise on the change when they switch over in July. Maybe their fans are so loyoal they won’t even care… just as long as the ghost hunters and goblins continue in the same fashion as before.
