The King is Dethroned

It’s never been about trying to reach the top spot, McDonald’s is nearly unbeatable. But the fight for #2 in the Burger Battle just got interesting. According to the Wall Street Journal, Wendy’s is primed to surpass Burger King for the first time since its opening in 1969.

The reordering is an interesting study in marketing and advertising versus strong business practices. In recent years Burger King has come out with some off-the-wall marketing campaigns. Everyone probably remembers the creepy King campaign. They were funny and memorable, but the problem is, they were targeted at the wrong people. While Burger King was running full force appealing to younger audiences, Wendy’s was focusing on advertising that centered on its fresh ingredients (I know, I know…fresh!?) and improving the dining experience. Meanwhile, more and more adults were losing their jobs and tightening their wallets. It is these struggling adults that were trying to eat cheaply, which drove up sales for the adorable red head.
With the release of these sales numbers, Burger King has announced that it will be returning to business basics with an updated menu and renovated restaurants.

I personally say good luck Burger King. It is this girl’s opinion that the new fries at Wendy’s just can’ t be beat! Have you tried them yet? They are delicious!
